Why Your Bedding is So Important

When it comes to decorating our homes, we spend a lot of time, energy, creativity and money on the areas that are most often seen by our guests—our living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms BUT what about our bedrooms and bedding? We have myriad choices for floor coverings—fine carpet and rugs, hardwood and ceramic tile, and laminates that look like the real thing; a variety of window treatments from elegant drapes to mini-blinds to charming shutters; functional yet dramatic counter tops; and gleaming high-tech new appliances and plumbing fixtures. It renews one’s spirit to give these areas of our homes exciting makeovers, making them into our dream rooms.

For some reason, though, we find it hard to justify making our bedrooms just as special and unique as the rest of our homes. Sure, the nursery is exciting to set up, and teens love to make their bedrooms their own with unique color combinations and personalized wall hangings, but the rest of us are content to settle for “blah” — mismatched furniture, dull walls, curtains inherited from our in-laws and blankets that are as old as, well, our furniture. After all, we (yawn) only sleep there. And it was good enough for our parents, right?

Time to get on the 20th century bandwagon, where it’s easier and less costly to create our own unique bedding oases than ever. All it takes is bedding from VisionBedding, a plan, and a little creativity. Get rid of clutter, draw yourself a floor plan, and play around with different furniture arrangements. Remember, your bedroom is a personal and intimate space. What do you want it to say about you? What makes you feel happy, comfortable and serene? Maybe you have favorite photos of your magical trip to Disney World, or your prized turquoise ’57 Chevy, or your grandkids that you miss so much, or good old Smoky, your favorite hunting buddy who would almost take flight to chase down its quarry just for you. You probably have photos from a fabulous vacation, your crazy wedding and exotic honeymoon, long-awaited graduation ceremonies, special holidays and family reunions. What do photos, bedding and bedroom redos have to do with each other? Just as your photos reflect where you’ve been, your bedroom can reflect who you are with Vision's bedding.

VisionBedding's bedding and bedding accessories offers the perfect way to personalize your bedroom sanctuary so that you are surrounded by all of your favorite things. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3: All you have to do is look through our online bedding catalog and make your selection of the coordinating items you wish to purchase, place your order, and e-mail us one or more of those favorite digital photos you have on display. (Don’t worry if your photos were not taken by a digital camera. Just scan them, or ask a copy shop to, and download them in digital format.)

In less than two weeks, we will deliver back to you something no one else in the world has: high quality bedding with clear and vivid images from your photographs that are actually dyed right into the soft and cuddly fabric—completely washable, durable and long lasting. Your new work of art will be the first thing you see when you wake up, and the last thing you see when you fall asleep. When you tumble into bed after a hectic day, the smiling faces and beautiful scenes you see will help kick your stress level down a few notches and call up fond thoughts and memories, increasing your chances for a more relaxed sleep in Vision's bedding. How can you think about your irritating boss or your mother-in-law’s annoying idiosyncrasies when you’re looking at your favorite faces and places? When you open your eyes, your first sight will again be evocative of a happy memory that will start your day with a little smile and tender thought.

So far, so good. But let’s not stop there. There is still more shopping to do. You’ve eliminated the unnecessary furniture and clutter from your bedroom. Now that you have seen your new bedding, pillows and blankets, it’s time to think about coordinating colors, furniture fix-ups and window transformations.

Is your room more of a hodgepodge than a five-star hotel suite? It’s an easy fix. Lightly sand down the painted or stained woods you already have and then, using simple painting techniques your helpful hardware store staff can show you, make the separate pieces look like they are all of the same vintage. Voila, a cohesive appearance in a finish you chose—and applied— yourself. Our bedroom / bedding makeover is almost finished.

Now pick out a striking color in your photographic masterpiece—the crisp green of a palm tree, the bright pink from your sweet granddaughter’s Easter dress, or the bright blue of your team’s football jerseys—measure your walls, and head off to your favorite home improvement, bedding store or paint store, armed with the actual photo or another sample. Not too sure about adding color to your walls? Use it as an accent by painting the trim or one wall only, and ask for guidance in selecting a more neutral coordinating tone such as a shade of cream, gray or tan for the walls. You will probably want to go with a satin or eggshell finish for the walls, rather than a gloss or semi-gloss, to avoid having light bouncing harshly off the walls. Semi-gloss can be used for the trim if you prefer that clean, gleaming effect.

Now it’s time to decide on your window treatments. First, answer these important questions: Do you need to protect your privacy? Do you want to frame a beautiful view, or simply soften the stark lines of the window frame? Next, decide what style is best. Satiny drapes would be out of place with a Caribbean theme, and flowery curtains would probably clash with bright polka dots. Thumb through bedding catalogs showing room scenes with different window coverings. From heavier drapes and curtains to airy sheers and shades, options abound. If you’re talented, make your own by copying ideas from catalogs and magazines.

If the carpeting stays, or if you have wood floors, new area rugs can not only add complementary color interest, they can provide a textural contrast and cozy feel to bare feet. There are lots of low-cost options to choose from. But be sure to purchase only what pleases your eye, no matter how well it matches.

Now stand back and gaze at your new bedding sanctuary, your peaceful and safe haven. Your space is transformed. Your bedroom tells a story—about you and your life, what you like to do, and what is important to you. It reflects your personality. Your bedding sanctuary is complete. Sweet dreams.
