Helping Your Child Keep Their Own Bedroom Clean

When decorating your child’s room there are many things that you can use such as kids bedding and decorations to help make your kids want to keep their room clean.

Parents need all the help they can get in inspiring organizational skills for their kids so here are a few tips and tricks to help you keep your kid’s room clean and more organized.

Assign a deep cleaning day where all the major work must be done and ten to fifteen minutes of minor tidying per day. You might suggest that each day before your child is allowed to go outside or play video games or watch tv that they pick up their room. Inspect the room and give them a list of things to do such as: make beds and organize toys and books. Each day inspect the room to prevent it from getting out of hand.

A good thing to do is allow your child to participate in choosing the décor for their room. A child with pride in his or her room because they love the way it looks when tidy are more likely to put more effort into keeping it that way. Let your son or daughter choose their paint color or wallpaper border and / or decals and allow them to choose childrens bedding sets that they like. There are many bedding options designed for a boy’s room or a girl’s room that can really dress up a room. Letting a child create a custom bedding set will also ease the pains of room cleaning.

Have plenty of storage to help your child stay organized. One of the problems many parents face is that their child has too much stuff to find homes for in the bedroom. If they get to a point where they have too many objects in their room and can’t find homes for everything, chaos will ensue. When there’s too much stuff and not enough places to put it, that’s when clutter happens. How do you combat this? First of all, have room to put things away like shelves and storage baskets and consider putting in a closet organizer too. There are some creative storage solutions that fit the theme of a bedroom as well such as clothes hampers and trunks or footlockers that can hold toys, books and sports equipment.

Once your child’s room gets out of control, it’s time to start weeding. You might have to lay down the law that nothing new is coming into the bedroom until they weed out some old things by throwing out, giving away to friends or donating to charity.

Some things take up a lot of room like seasonal clothing and sports equipment or sleeping bags or blankets and comforters in a closet as well Keep spare sets of linens, blankets, pillows, etc. in another room and ensure that they change their bedding on a regular basis so that the room doesn’t get stale smelling. Kids don’t always know how to gage whether something is clean or not so they’ll need a bit of help from you. As part of their chore list you might want to schedule in things like vacuuming, weeding out and dusting the bedroom plus changing bedding. A kids bedding set should be laundered regularly with the sheets changed about once a week to keep things clean.
